We depart early in the morning from Chalkida to Thebes to experience one of the oldest customs, that of the Vlach Wedding.

In Thebes on Clean Monday revives one of the oldest customs of our country, the Vlach wedding. It is an old and living Greek custom, preserved in the mountainous regions of Macedonia, Epirus, Thessaly and Roumeli, and transferred to southern Greece, after the liberation, around 1830, by the Vlachs themselves, who, abandoning their barren region, descended further south.

On Thursday night "the sourdoughs are caught", feasting and staying up late for the happy days to come.

On Tyrini Sunday, the "Kapetanaioi" with "Panousis" (servant), the flambouro and the local instruments (daouli and pipiza), take a walk to the Vlach konakia and gather the lads of "boulouki", the Vlach Macedonians and Liapides. The "bouloukia" gather in the main streets and in the square and dance.

On Sunday night, on the street of Epaminondas, the "matchmaking" and the "engagements" take place, and the dancing and singing continue until dawn the next day.

On the morning of Clean Monday, the "skaros sweeps" (wake-up call) and each boulouki separately lights its fire where the bride's "propyra" (pie) is baked while the lads dance the "Pyrrhic" dance.

At noon of the same day, the "bouloukia" who have gathered in the meantime at the chapel of Agia Triada, start the "procession" to the center of Thebes where the wedding will take place.

The bride's "dowry" is left in the square, the "bouloukia" begin dancing and the groom's shaving begins.

This is followed by the "Vlach wedding" and "the dance of the dead" (pre-Christian remnant).

The spree of joy (fun - feast - dance) lasts until dawn on Tuesday.
