TEMPLE OF EPICOURIAN APOLLO - ANDRITSAINA - KARYTAINA

We depart from Chalkida at 7:30 where, with a stop for the necessary coffee, we arrive at the Temple of Epicurean Apollo. The Temple of Epicurean Apollo is the first Greek monument to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986. Here we will have time to tour and learn its history. Then we will head towards the mountainous Andritsina, walk along its cobblestone streets, admire its stone mansions and enjoy the view from the central square dominated by three tall plane trees. In the central square we will find the Trani Fountain, exactly opposite the city's central temple, Agios Nikolaos, and it is the oldest fountain in the area. We will have free time to explore... Our next destination is Karytaina, the Toledo of Greece, as they call it. Stone houses with red tiled roofs, cobblestone streets, Byzantine churches, stone fountains and arched bridges, all against a green background, Karytaina meets all those criteria of tradition, picturesqueness and authentic Greekness. The houses are all built in a traditional style, old mansions, up and down mahalas, shops with roofs, ruges, Byzantine churches and chapels – with strong elements of Frankish influence – and the house of Theodoros Kolokotronis. We will have free time to get to know it and enjoy our meal in the area and why not some dessert. It is time to take our return journey with a stop in Tripoli for a coffee and continue full of beautiful memories of Chalkida in the early afternoon.
