Lake Beletsi is an important wetland in the region, as it is home to migratory birds as well as permanent aquatic animals (ducks, swans), fish, mainly carps and eels. Several water turtles also live in the lake, mainly the so-called red-cheeked water turtles (Trachemys scripta elegans), which are an example of invasive species. Their original origin is the USA and Mexico, but they are also the most commercially available turtles as pets worldwide, and thus, as abandoned former pets, they managed to conquer various wetlands worldwide, including Lake Beletsi.

Excursion Programm

We depart from Chalkida at 10:00 in the morning for Lake Beletsi, one of the beautiful ornaments of Parnitha, which makes it unique. It is located on its eastern slopes, it is very easy to reach and is a beautiful landscape. In this artificial lake we will see dozens of ducks, swans and turtles swimming, it is not suitable for swimming. There we will enjoy the fresh air and nature. Just before Lake Beletsi we will find the picturesque chapel of Agia Triada which is located in a beautiful landscape. And here your camera will catch fire. On the way back we will sit for coffee or even food at "Lakkaggini Sta Kiourka", a beautiful place that is more than just a beautiful shop. In addition to the fenced-in playground they have built for the children so that parents can supervise them from their tables, the large area that belongs to the shop is nothing more or less an entire zoo. And there are even some species of animals that you don't see often, such as the extremely rare white kangaroo (there are only 8 in the entire world). Early in the afternoon we will return to Chalkida.
