EXCURSION PROGRAMM

Day 1: ATHENS – BITOLA – LAKE OHRID Departure early in the morning and with intermediate stops for coffee and rest we arrive at the Niki Border Station. After passing the border control, we depart for the historic city, Bitola. Ancient Greek Heraclea and later Roman Butyl are only 14 km from the Greek border. It is located in the southern part of the Pelagonia Valley. From Ottoman times it was known as the City of Consuls. It is the 2nd Largest City in the State. We will visit the Cathedral of St. Demetriou, one of the Largest Churches in North Macedonia. Then we will see the Covered Market, the old Bazaar, the Clock Tower, the Mosque of Aydar Kadi and finally we will walk on the famous main street of the City, Sirok Sokak. Transfer and arrangement to our hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: OHRID – FLOATING MUSEUM – MONASTERY OF SAINT NAUM After breakfast, we depart to enjoy the City of Ohrid, the "Jerusalem of the Balkans" as it is characterized due to its great religious contribution to the spread of Christianity in the Western and Central Balkans and the existence of 365 Churches, one for each day of the year. We will start from the Main Entrance (Gorna Porta), walking through its Picturesque Alleys, we will see the Old Mansions and the Byzantine Churches of Agios Klimis, Panagia Perivleptos and Agia Sophia. Then we will climb to the Castle of Tsar Samuel and end up at the Roman Theater. We will descend to the Central Square passing through the narrow cobbled streets and the beautiful beach. Free time for coffee and rest or optionally we can board a passenger ship for a small cruise on the beautiful lake. In the afternoon we will depart for the Unique Water Museum. The prehistoric city on the water or as it is known "The City of Bones" We will admire a Floating Museum, unique in its kind, in which a Prehistoric Settlement was set up in 8,500 sq.m. We will see authentic copies of the houses as they were from 1,200 to 700 B.C. Above the bay was constructed a Roman Fortress, located next to the Settlement and the Floating Museum. We continue to the Byzantine Monastery of Saint Naum (where the Church of the Archangels is) on the South side of the Lake, built on the top of the Hill where we will enjoy the amazing panoramic view of the lake and the nearby Albanian Coast (30 km) watching the Historic Pogradec. The monastery was built in the 10th century when the whole area was the seat of the Greek Orthodox Archbishopric and also has amazing Byzantine frescoes. This is where the Greek monks Cyril and Methodius started to teach the Slavs the Alphabet, who created the Cyrillic alphabet but also taught the Bible. Saint Naoum is buried in this monastery. Return to our Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: MAVROVO NATIONAL PARK – RADITSA GORGE – MONASTERY OF ST. JOHN BIKORSKI – STROUGA Breakfast. We depart for a fantastic ride along the River Drim Through the Radisa Gorge (38 km) the longest passable Gorge in Europe. We arrive at the Historic Monastery of St. John the Baptist (Ivan Bikorski) Bigorski, which is stuck on a steep cliff. We will end up at the unique Artificial Lake of Mavrovo (Black Field). It is a year-round tourist destination due to the Zare Lazarevski Ski Resort, the National Park and the Artificial Lake. The area is full of natural beauties, wonderful views and a transparent clean lake and mountain hills from where one can see the panorama of Mount Bistra. We will be able to see the Church submerged in water, a result of the Technical Dam of 1953. Back and we will visit the 2nd city of the lake, the city of Pearls of Struga. We will walk along the big pedestrian street along the river and indulge in crazy Pearl Markets. Departure for our hotel where we will enjoy the wonderful lake of Ohrid. It is the deepest lake in the Balkans and a protected wetland, 32 km long. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: OHRID – FLORINA – ATHENS Breakfast and departure from our hotel. Then from the well-known route through the border station of Niki and with intermediate stops for food and coffee optionally, we arrive in Athens in the evening.
